'No Ducking Way' (Framed Ink Painting)

About - 'No Ducking Way' is a framed - one of a kind - doodle ink painting by Maitreyee Upadhyay which in the least is a great conversation starter and at most could be an expression of the weird bird voices in your eccentric brain! It's a visual jam session which says you don't need clashing colours to be loud, proud and artsy! No one is just one bird and this one is if you contain multitudes - bonus points if you have ADHD & are queer because this piece is engineered to make your freak flag fly.

About the Artist

Gargi Ajay Upadhyay and Maitreyee Upadhyay are the sister founders and artists behind Fifth House. They run the practice collaboratively, from concept development to making and presenting finished works. Fifth House focuses on paintings and ceramic works, often using techniques like sgraffito to build layered surfaces.

Their journey with Fifth House grew from a shared upbringing and a habit of making art side by side. Feminism sits at the core of their practice, informing works that playfully yet critically question stereotypes around women, identity, and visibility. Indian literature, cinema, and visual culture deeply influence their storytelling, creating art that is bold and expressive.

Shipping & Returns

Ready-to-ship pieces are dispatched within 72 hours of placing your order. For made-to-order creations, the timeline mentioned on the product page applies.

Every piece at Kala Curry travels directly from the hands that made it to the home that will cherish it. Because your order ships straight from the artist, multiple items may arrive in separate packages from different corners of India. This mindful, direct journey reduces excess warehousing and unnecessary transit — a quieter, more considered approach to sustainability.

We offer free shipping on orders above ₹5,000.

As each piece is handcrafted with care, we accept returns only if your item arrives damaged or incorrect. Please notify us within 48 hours of delivery.

To help us resolve this smoothly, please share:

  • Clear photos of the product
  • An unboxing video showing the issue

You can submit your return request through our returns form here.

Care Guide

1. Placement - Keep your artwork away from direct sunlight to prevent fading.

Avoid areas with high humidity (bathrooms, kitchens) to protect the wood and prevent mold.

Hang in a spot with stable temperature—not directly above radiators or air conditioners.

2. Cleaning the Glass

Use a soft microfiber cloth.

Spray glass cleaner onto the cloth, not directly on the frame, to avoid liquid seeping inside.

Wipe gently in circular motions.

3. Caring for the Wood

Dust regularly with a dry or slightly damp cloth.

Avoid harsh cleaners; use a mild wood polish occasionally if needed.

Don’t use too much water—wood doesn’t like it.

4. Handling

Always lift frames by both sides, not the top edge.

If moving, wrap in bubble wrap or soft cloth to protect corners and glass.

5. Longevity
Check the hanging hardware once a year to make sure it’s still secure.

For long-term storage, keep upright in a cool, dry space, and cover with cloth to prevent dust buildup.

FAQs

Most commonly asked questions from the community

Why is there a shipping fee?

Each piece on Kala Curry is shipped directly from the artist or collective who made it, so your order might travel from different parts of the country depending on what you buy.

As we grow, we’re working on making shipping more efficient (and more affordable). But for now, this fee helps us make sure your art gets to you safely, straight from the source.

We offer free shipping on all orders over ₹5,000 as a small thank you for supporting handmade art.

How can I cancel my order?

Since we work with independent artists and small collectives, we don’t allow cancellations once an order is placed. We encourage you to buy only what you truly love. This helps us reduce waste and honours the time, care, and effort behind every piece. If you are unsure about a purchase and our website doesn’t answer all your questions, reach out to us at kalacurry.friends@gmail.com

How do I return my order?

We only accept returns if your order arrived damaged or if we sent you the wrong item. If that happens, just let us know within 48 hours of delivery, and we’ll take care of it.

To help us process your return smoothly, please take clear photos and an unboxing video when your package arrives. You can submit your return request through this link.

What do I do if my order is damaged?

We’re so sorry your order didn’t arrive as it should have. We promise we’ll try to make it right!

Please contact us within 48 hours of delivery, and send us photos + an unboxing video so that we can cross-check the issue with the artist and our shipping partners. We’ll process your return or replacement from there as per our return policy.

Why doesn’t Kala Curry offer cash on delivery (COD)?

Most Kala Curry products are shipped directly by our artisans and made in small batches.

COD orders have 2–3x higher return rates than prepaid orders, with nearly 1 in 4 orders being returned. These returns lead to unnecessary shipping, packaging waste, and higher carbon emissions, and directly impact artisan livelihoods.

By avoiding COD, we can:

  • Reduce returns and environmental burden
  • Ensure fair, predictable earnings for artisans
  • Enable faster, smoother deliveries

Thank you for supporting independent artists and sustainable craft practices.
