About the Artist

Mud and Moon is a design studio started by Dhanvi Shah based in Ahmedabad, India, pursuing artisanal cold process soaps. The studio creates soaps that are mindfully designed, hand-poured, and hand-cut in small batches. Mud and Moon focuses on true soap made through cold process saponification, using plant-based oils such as olive, sunflower, coconut, and castor oil, each chosen for its skin-loving properties. All bars are naturally coloured using ingredients like indigo, turmeric, clays, and botanical powders, and scented with essential or fragrance oils.

The practice behind Mud and Moon is rooted in a belief that bathing can be both sensory and restorative. Glycerin, a natural byproduct of cold process soap-making, is preserved within each bar, helping draw moisture into the skin. Free from SLS, parabens, and phthalates, the soaps are created as functional art-pieces. Alongside its core collections, Mud and Moon also creates custom soaps for weddings, events, baby showers, and corporate gifting.

Care Guide

Lather up the bar with lots of water in your hands and cleanse. Be careful with the eyes. Incase of contact with water, rinse with water. To extend the life of your soap, keep dry between use by using a draining soap dish. Please patch test before use.
How much ever you are tempted to, do not eat the soap. They are not pastries for sure. For external use only. Patch test before use. Discontinue using incase of irritation or redness.

Store the soap in dry & cool place or cupboard.
In case of humid weather or rainy days, its most preferred to store the soap in a room where you use the air conditioner often. Since cold process soaps have glycerin occurring naturally in them which is a natural humectant, they attract moisture from the weather. This makes the soap watery, the packaging flimsy from the water and it might look like its melting. But its just moisture from the weather, and does not affect the quality of the soap. Even if your soap do watch moisture, they will work perfectly fine when in use.

FAQs

Most commonly asked questions from the community

Why is there a shipping fee?

Each piece on Kala Curry is shipped directly from the artist or collective who made it, so your order might travel from different parts of the country depending on what you buy.

As we grow, we’re working on making shipping more efficient (and more affordable). But for now, this fee helps us make sure your art gets to you safely, straight from the source.

We offer free shipping on all orders over ₹5,000 as a small thank you for supporting handmade art.

How can I cancel my order?

Since we work with independent artists and small collectives, we don’t allow cancellations once an order is placed. We encourage you to buy only what you truly love. This helps us reduce waste and honours the time, care, and effort behind every piece. If you are unsure about a purchase and our website doesn’t answer all your questions, reach out to us at kalacurry.friends@gmail.com

How do I return my order?

We only accept returns if your order arrived damaged or if we sent you the wrong item. If that happens, just let us know within 48 hours of delivery, and we’ll take care of it.

To help us process your return smoothly, please take clear photos and an unboxing video when your package arrives. You can submit your return request through this link.

What do I do if my order is damaged?

We’re so sorry your order didn’t arrive as it should have. We promise we’ll try to make it right!

Please contact us within 48 hours of delivery, and send us photos + an unboxing video so that we can cross-check the issue with the artist and our shipping partners. We’ll process your return or replacement from there as per our return policy.

Why doesn’t Kala Curry offer cash on delivery (COD)?

Most Kala Curry products are shipped directly by our artisans and made in small batches.

COD orders have 2–3x higher return rates than prepaid orders, with nearly 1 in 4 orders being returned. These returns lead to unnecessary shipping, packaging waste, and higher carbon emissions, and directly impact artisan livelihoods.

By avoiding COD, we can:

  • Reduce returns and environmental burden
  • Ensure fair, predictable earnings for artisans
  • Enable faster, smoother deliveries

Thank you for supporting independent artists and sustainable craft practices.
