Choke-er Bali because she's got me in a chokehold. And hopefully you too.

Fifth House Artist Maitreyee Upadhyay has been OBSESSED with women since she held a crayon. If you've not read Chokher Bali by Rabindranath Tagore, this art piece will not shame you for it. But she might gently, tenderly ask you to pick up a book once in a while. She's a hand drawn, one of a kind cutout piece placed against a print that says femme femme femme (french for woman woman woman) So, if you love women (if you don't um why?), this art piece is one way to show it off! Shipped with the frame.

Care Guide

1. Placement - Keep your artwork away from direct sunlight to prevent fading.

Avoid areas with high humidity (bathrooms, kitchens) to protect the wood and prevent mold.

Hang in a spot with stable temperature—not directly above radiators or air conditioners.

2. Cleaning the Glass

Use a soft microfiber cloth.

Spray glass cleaner onto the cloth, not directly on the frame, to avoid liquid seeping inside.

Wipe gently in circular motions.

3. Caring for the Wood

Dust regularly with a dry or slightly damp cloth.

Avoid harsh cleaners; use a mild wood polish occasionally if needed.

Don’t use too much water—wood doesn’t like it.

4. Handling

Always lift frames by both sides, not the top edge.

If moving, wrap in bubble wrap or soft cloth to protect corners and glass.

5. Longevity
Check the hanging hardware once a year to make sure it’s still secure.

For long-term storage, keep upright in a cool, dry space, and cover with cloth to prevent dust buildup.

FAQs

Most commonly asked questions from the community

Why is there a shipping fee?

Each piece on Kala Curry is shipped directly from the artist or collective who made it, so your order might travel from different parts of the country depending on what you buy.

As we grow, we’re working on making shipping more efficient (and more affordable). But for now, this fee helps us make sure your art gets to you safely, straight from the source.

We offer free shipping on all orders over ₹5,000 as a small thank you for supporting handmade art.

How can I cancel my order?

Since we work with independent artists and small collectives, we don’t allow cancellations once an order is placed. We encourage you to buy only what you truly love. This helps us reduce waste and honours the time, care, and effort behind every piece. If you are unsure about a purchase and our website doesn’t answer all your questions, reach out to us at kalacurry.friends@gmail.com
